A Kawarau zipline ride beside the bridge
The Kawarau zipline is based at the activity centre beside the historic suspension bridge. The ride is called Zipride and uses three parallel lines, each 130 m long. It offers a different way to experience the setting from bungy or a swing. Choose according to the activity you actually want, while checking the participation requirements for everyone travelling with you.
The standalone package includes the ride, photos and free transport from central Queenstown. The other choice is a full adventure day combining an eBike, a jet boat experience and the Kawarau ride. These suit different schedules: one keeps the focus on the centre, while the other joins several locations and activities. For a wider comparison, see the excursions from Queenstown and the bridge bungy guide.

Compare the standalone ride with photos and Queenstown transport against an eBike day with a Shotover jet boat component and wine tasting.
The standalone ride and the full adventure day
The standalone ride package includes photos, giving it a clear practical benefit if you want a record of the activity. Select the meeting point associated with your transport option. Its duration varies with the option, so leave time for check-in and the journey as well as the ride itself. The centre gives an overall allowance of one and a half hours for self-arrival or two and a half hours with the bus.
The eight-hour combination includes premium eBike hire, a helmet, repair kit, pannier and handlebar bags. A trail map and trail support are included, together with shuttles from Queenstown to Arthurs Point and from Gibbston to Queenstown. The jet boat component takes place on the Shotover; the zipline component is at the Kawarau. A guided wine tasting is included. Lunch is extra, and bungy or swing are available as upgrades rather than included activities.
Age, weight, accompaniment and health
The minimum age for the Kawarau ride is eight. Children aged eight to nine must ride tandem with an adult aged at least 20, and participants under 15 need adult consent. The product guidance gives a weight range of 30 to 150 kg for solo or tandem participation. These conditions belong to this ride; the limits for bungy, swing and other adventure activities are separate.
Wear secure closed shoes. Pregnancy and photosensitive epilepsy exclude participation. Osteoporosis, scoliosis or a recent concussion require a medical certificate. Tell the activity team about blood pressure or heart problems, other epilepsy, serious short-sightedness, bone injuries, neurological conditions, diabetes, asthma and recent muscle injuries. A companion joining the adventure day must also meet the requirements of its other components; a zipline booking is not a personal medical assessment.
Getting to the centre and watching the activities
The centre is reached along State Highway 6. Its published road guidance gives Queenstown to the centre as 23 km and about 25 minutes, with travel conditions affecting the journey. That is a road estimate, not the time needed for the activity or an airport transfer. Use the getting-there guide to separate travel to Queenstown from the onward trip to the bridge.
The visitor area, viewing deck and parking are free, with no reservation required for that spectator visit. This makes the centre useful when some people want to ride and others want to watch. The historic bridge has its own story, described in the suspension bridge guide. Treat access to the visitor area and participation in an activity as separate parts of your day.
Opening hours and a day beyond the ride
The centre opens from 08:30 to 17:00 in October to April and from 09:00 to 16:30 in May to September. The last activities are 30 minutes before closing, and the centre closes on 25 December. These are visitor opening hours rather than a promise of an available activity slot. Book around your chosen transport arrangement and allow time to return to town.
If cycling is your priority, read about the Gibbston River Trail and wine region before selecting a combination. A standalone ride leaves you to arrange the rest of your day separately, while the adventure package already has its own equipment, shuttles and tasting. Keeping those two plans distinct helps avoid committing to another excursion before the longer programme has finished.
